VLSI fresher salary in India (2026): what freshers really earn
Starting pay for RTL design, verification, physical design and DFT freshers in India, by company type and city, in simple words.
Fresher salary by role
| Role | Typical fresher range | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| RTL design | ₹6–10 LPA | Write Verilog/SystemVerilog for chip blocks. |
| Design verification (DV) | ₹6–11 LPA | Build UVM testbenches and find bugs before tape-out. Often pays a little more than design. |
| Physical design (PD) | ₹6–10 LPA | Turn the design into a layout: floorplan, placement, clock tree, routing, timing. |
| DFT | ₹5.5–9 LPA | Add test logic (scan, BIST) so chips can be tested after manufacturing. |
| Analog / custom layout | ₹5–9 LPA | Draw layouts for analog blocks like ADCs, PLLs and memories. |
These are middle-of-the-market ranges. Top product companies pay well above them and service companies often below.
Fresher salary by company type
| Company type | Examples | Fresher offer |
|---|---|---|
| Top product companies | NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Intel, AMD, Google silicon | ₹14–25+ LPA |
| Other product companies | Marvell, MediaTek, Samsung, NXP, Renesas, Microchip | ₹9–14 LPA |
| EDA companies | Cadence, Synopsys, Siemens EDA | ₹10–16 LPA |
| Chip startups | Funded Indian chip startups | ₹8–14 LPA + stock options |
| Services and design houses | Engineering services and VLSI design-services firms | ₹4–7 LPA |
Fresher salary by city
| City | Typical fresher median |
|---|---|
| Bengaluru | about ₹8 LPA |
| Hyderabad | about ₹7.5 LPA |
| Noida / Gurugram | about ₹7.5 LPA |

Internships and trainee roles
From real posts on our Careers page: hardware and VLSI trainee roles showed stipends of ₹15,000–20,000 a month (a hardware graduate trainee role) and up to ₹30,000 a month (an EDA company trainee role), and a semiconductor plant apprenticeship paid ₹18,000 a month. Some "trained intern" posts are unpaid. Always check the post before you apply.
After 2–5 years
Pay grows fast once you have tape-out experience. Engineers with 2–5 years usually earn about ₹7–14 LPA across the market, and much more at product companies, which pay roughly 20–40% above the market average at every level.
CTC vs in-hand: read your offer letter
- CTC (cost to company) includes PF, gratuity, insurance, joining bonus and sometimes stock. It is not what you get each month.
- Your in-hand monthly pay is usually about 70–85% of CTC ÷ 12.
- A one-time joining bonus or stock (RSUs) can make CTC look bigger in year one.
- Bonds: some service companies ask you to sign a service bond. Read it before you accept.
How to get a higher first offer
- Pick one track and go deep: follow our DV roadmap or RTL design roadmap. A focused resume beats a "knows everything" one.
- Show one real project with a testbench, coverage or a full OpenLane flow to GDSII.

Common questions
What is the salary of a VLSI fresher in India?
Most VLSI freshers in India start between ₹4 and ₹10 lakh a year (CTC). Service and design-services companies usually pay ₹4–7 lakh, mid-size product companies ₹9–14 lakh, and top product companies like NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Intel about ₹14–25 lakh or more for the best campus hires.
Which VLSI role pays the most for freshers?
Design verification usually pays a little more than RTL design at the same level, because demand for verification engineers is higher. Physical design and DFT pay close to design. Analog layout often starts a little lower.
Is CTC the same as in-hand salary?
No. CTC includes things like PF, gratuity, insurance and bonus. Your monthly in-hand pay is usually about 70–85% of CTC divided by 12, depending on tax and the company's pay structure.
How much do VLSI internships pay in India?
In our own job listings, paid VLSI and hardware internships and trainee roles in India show stipends from about ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 a month. Some training-style roles are unpaid, so always read the post.
