Internships and trainee roles

From real posts on our Careers page: hardware and VLSI trainee roles showed stipends of ₹15,000–20,000 a month (a hardware graduate trainee role) and up to ₹30,000 a month (an EDA company trainee role), and a semiconductor plant apprenticeship paid ₹18,000 a month. Some "trained intern" posts are unpaid. Always check the post before you apply.

After 2–5 years

Pay grows fast once you have tape-out experience. Engineers with 2–5 years usually earn about ₹7–14 LPA across the market, and much more at product companies, which pay roughly 20–40% above the market average at every level.

How to get a higher first offer

  1. Pick one track and go deep: follow our DV roadmap or RTL design roadmap. A focused resume beats a "knows everything" one.
  2. Show one real project with a testbench, coverage or a full OpenLane flow to GDSII.
  3. Practise explaining answers out loud. Try our free AI Interview Bot and 181 interview questions.
  4. Apply to product companies too, not only services firms. Watch our fresher jobs and company pages.

Common questions

What is the salary of a VLSI fresher in India?

Most VLSI freshers in India start between ₹4 and ₹10 lakh a year (CTC). Service and design-services companies usually pay ₹4–7 lakh, mid-size product companies ₹9–14 lakh, and top product companies like NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Intel about ₹14–25 lakh or more for the best campus hires.

Which VLSI role pays the most for freshers?

Design verification usually pays a little more than RTL design at the same level, because demand for verification engineers is higher. Physical design and DFT pay close to design. Analog layout often starts a little lower.

Is CTC the same as in-hand salary?

No. CTC includes things like PF, gratuity, insurance and bonus. Your monthly in-hand pay is usually about 70–85% of CTC divided by 12, depending on tax and the company's pay structure.

How much do VLSI internships pay in India?

In our own job listings, paid VLSI and hardware internships and trainee roles in India show stipends from about ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 a month. Some training-style roles are unpaid, so always read the post.
